Nasreen R. Meah, LCSW, LSW, MSW, CPC
Co-Founder and President
Nasreen Meah is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice and a lecturer at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Nasreen also serves as a member of the Ethics committee at the National Association of Social Workers-Michigan Chapter and as a board member at the non-profit organization Mai Family Services. Nasreen brings 13 years of experience in mental health and community organizing.
Nasreen is passionate about social justice and believes that society’s privilege has a moral responsibility to help those with less privilege. Nasreen and her husband continue their commitment to community service through their private foundation.

Daria Massimilla, MPH, RN
Vice-President
Daria Massimilla holds a BS in Biology, Nursing and MPH from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and is also a registered nurse. With over 40 years of experience in healthcare, she brings a wealth of expertise to her work with Jotno. Currently, Daria most recently served as a Health Care Analyst at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Her career highlights include implementing, managing and evaluating a disease prevention program for the National Cancer Institute.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Daria is deeply engaged in community service and governance, having served in leadership positions with local organizations, ethics committee, and with a Ukrainian medical society and women’s league. Her dedication to healthcare and public service underscores her commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of all, especially the disadvantaged.

Linda Sattler, PhD
Treasurer
Linda is an industrial engineer and statistician with a background in improving manufacturing facilities and survey research. received her Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research in 1995, during which she was part of the Competitive Semiconductor Manufacturing Research Project. She has a master’s degree in applied math and an undergraduate degree in both math and computer science. She has worked in various capacities for Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Chrysler, Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Intel, Tyndall National Institute and Dairygold. StatDat Analytics, LLC, a statistics consulting firm, was founded by Linda in 2013.

Julie Cushman, LCSW, LMSW
Secretary
Julie is a social worker with over twenty years of experience as a Teaching Professor at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. She brings a comprehensive portfolio of experience in nonprofit organization, specializing in advanced clinical intervention, social policy, community change, research, evaluation, and the practice of diversity and social change, along with practical experience in grant writing and navigating the complexities of funding and resource allocation management over the past decade. Her involvement in community-wide initiatives has influenced policy by advocating for systems that support equality, equity, and social justice—especially for women and families facing societal challenges.
Julie’s longstanding academic, advocacy, and policy development work helps bridge the gap between theory and practical application to develop social solutions. Julie believes by supporting initiatives that offer educational resources, mentoring, and support to underserved children. We are not just changing individual lives — we are transforming communities and paving the way for a brighter, more equitable future.
Non-Voting Board Fellows

Christina Alvarez
Christina is pursuing a dual Masters of Public Policy and Business Administration at University of Michigan. She earned her B.A. from Boston University in European Studies minoring in Spanish, Political Science, and History. She has worked in the nonprofit sector for most of her career, most recently, as a summer camp program director at Sherman Lake YMCA in Southwest Michigan. Christina has held positions working in youth development and also in nonprofit strategy consulting.

Olivia Luo
Olivia is pursuing a Master’s in Educational Studies at the University of Michigan, specializing in Research for Educational Improvement (REI). She earned her B.A. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She has experience in educational evaluation and data analysis through the Center for Education Design, Evaluation, and Research (CEDER). She has long been engaged in social impact initiatives, including organizing winter supply donation drives for communities in Tibet and volunteering in rural education programs. Her work reflects a deep commitment to promoting equity and opportunity through evidence-based policy and community engagement.
Consultant

Shawn Meah
Shawn is a software engineer with a B.S.E. in Computer Science and a minor in Environmental Science from the University of Michigan. He previously worked at Duo Security and has been actively involved in political reform initiatives, environmental cleanups, and data collection projects across Michigan. Passionate about technology for social good, Shawn is now focused on expanding internet access and digital education for underserved communities.
Advisory Board

Sahela Nasrin, MBBS, MCPS, MD
Dr. Nasrin, MBBS, MCPS (Medicine), MD (Cardiology), is a seasoned interventional cardiologist based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is a Senior Consultant and Professor of Cardiology at the Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital & Research Institute (ICHRI), where her clinical practice focuses on complex coronary interventions, outcomes research, and the management of acute coronary syndromes—work that has included published studies.
In her executive leadership capacity as CEO of ICHRI, Dr Nasrin steers both the institution’s mission of delivering high-quality cardiac care and its academic and training programs. She contributes to national certificate courses in cardiovascular disease and helps advance care for underserved families—an alignment with the Jotno Foundation’s broader goals of empowering children, youth and families through improved health equity.

Mohammed N. Islam, MS, ScD
Professor Islam received his BS, MS and ScD degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge. Dr Islam is a leading innovator and educator in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Michigan, with a focus on applying advanced laser technology to critical issues in defense and healthcare. A prolific entrepreneur, he has founded several companies to commercialize his research. He is a respected fellow of both the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Optical Society and has authored over 135 journal papers and holds more than 145 patents. Spearheading Jotno Foundation’s new initiative, he is exploring collaboration between universities in the U.S. and Bangladesh to foster research and innovation in engineering and medicine. His expertise and commitment to technological advancement to improve access to economic opportunities and medical care in Bangladesh make him a valuable contributor to Jotno’s mission.
